Bath Salts and Spice Ordinance heads to City Council

Bakersfield City Council Member Chris Parlier is pushing to ban the sale of Spice or Bath Salts in the city of Bakersfield.

Spice or Bath salts are often packaged to appeal to adolescents.

A “Bath Salts” and “Spice” ordinance moved out of the Legislative & Litigation Committee and heads to the Bakersfield City Council this Wednesday for its first reading.  I first referred this issue to the committee in an effort to help protect our kids from synthetic poisons that are primarily targeted towards the young, with cartoon type packaging.  I would like to personally thank my council colleagues, Councilmembers Terry Maxwell and Jacquie Sullivan for their supportive statements in recognizing the negative impact that these poisons for profit have on our community.  This ordinance will give another tool to help stop the ravages of unregulated designer drugs.
