I am happy to be appointed as the Chair of the City of Bakersfield, Safe Neighborhoods and Community Relations Committee, by Vice Mayor Hanson. I feel that my years in law enforcement will help in developing strategies and recommendations to build a safer city. I also believe in strong citizen participation to help set the table for community support and buy-in of those strategies.
I will also serve as a member of the Bakersfield City Council Budget and Finance committee, member of Bakersfield City Council Legislative and Litigation committee. member of Kern Economic Development Corporation, and a member of the Local Agency Formation Commission. I look forward to representing Ward 7 in these assignments.
You can read about the assignments in the Bakersfield Californian article. Here is an excerpt from the article:
“Meanwhile, new southern Councilman Chris Parlier will be heading up the council’s Safe Neighborhoods committee.
Parlier, 52, is a businessman and former California Department of Justice special agent — which Maxwell said should serve him in good stead as chairman.
Parlier will also replace Maxwell as a member of the council’s Budget and Finance committee, and replace Johnson on its Legislative and Litigation committee.
Hanson said he thought the assignments would fit the two men’s experience levels.
“(Maxwell’s) been on the council for a while. Parlier has not and I think the Budget and Finance is a good committee for Chris to get involved with. It just makes sense,” Hanson said.”
